Sunil Varghese

Sunil Varghese is an attorney and co-founder of Red Knot Law, based in Washington, DC. He advises clients on immigration matters nationwide and provides estate planning services in Washington, DC and New York.
Sunil earned his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center, where he received a Certificate in Refugees and Humanitarian Emergencies and served on the Georgetown Immigration Law Journal. He is admitted to practice in New York and Washington, DC, with Maryland admission pending.
Before co-founding Red Knot Law, Sunil spent more than fifteen years working in immigration and refugee advocacy, including leadership roles at the International Refugee Assistance Project (IRAP) and other national organizations. He is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), the DC Bar, the New York State Bar Association, and the Truman National Security Project.
Melissa Malmgren

Melissa Malmgren is an attorney and co-founder of Red Knot Law. She represents clients in asylum, family-based, and employment-based immigration matters, as well as waivers of inadmissibility and removal defense. Melissa has successfully represented individuals and families before immigration courts and federal agencies across the United States.
In addition to her work at Red Knot Law, Melissa serves as Managing Attorney at the Law Office of Sandy Khine, P.C., where she leads a busy national immigration practice. Earlier in her career, she worked as an Asylum Officer at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and as a legal consultant and analyst with The Mandalay Group LLC, advising on U.S. Treasury Department (OFAC) regulations related to Myanmar.
Melissa earned her J.D. from New York Law School and her B.A. in Middle Eastern Studies and Arabic Language and Literature from The University of Texas at Austin.
She has been licensed to practice law in New York since 2012.

Sandy Khine serves as Of Counsel at Red Knot Law. She has helped thousands of individuals and families obtain asylum, green cards, and other immigration benefits throughout her career. Sandy is admitted to practice in New York and Connecticut, and before the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York. She earned her J.D. from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law. Fluent in Burmese, Sandy provides compassionate and informed representation to clients from all backgrounds.
